You might ask yourself, "why is Smith Metal Products based in Minnesota?" Well, our parent company, Plastic Products Company has their headquarters in Minnesota, so that is one reason. Plastic Products Company decided to open a metal injection molding business in the 1990s. It was originally in Lindstrom, MN, but moved to the next town over, Center City, in 2012. So that explains how we got here, but why do we stay?

1.     By being located in the United States, Smith Metal Products is supporting American jobs and American manufacturing. We do not do any manufacturing overseas. Everything is made in our Center City, MN location.

2.      Our central location in the middle of the country allows us to ship to our customers in a timely manner.

3.      Center City is in an area full of lakes, and it is beautiful.

4.      There are many different markets that we serve, and some of our customers have headquarters or other locations in Minnesota.

5.     Vendors that specialize in secondary processes (the ones we cannot do in-house) are within driving distance from our location. This makes it easy to develop strong relationships and we have a truck that is able to travel between them quickly and efficiently.

6.      The airport is an hour drive away, making it pretty easy to get on a plane and visit our customers.

7.      Smith Metal Products got a brand new building in 2012, so why would we leave?

There are other reasons why we like our location, but this gives you a good idea of why we enjoy being in Center City, Minnesota.
